Michael Ward began his artistic career with pen and ink renderings of historical architecture. He began painting in 1980, drawing inspiration from Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, Richard Estes and Vermeer. Nearly all of his paintings are based on photographs which he has taken over the years, primarily of Southern California. Though it was never his intention to depict nostalgic scenes, many of the images that he has painted have disappeared or been radically altered in the ever-changing landscape that defines Southern California with his work exhibited in area museums including: the Oceanside Museum of Art, Pasadena Museum of History, Casa Romantica (San Clemente), Huntington Beach Art Museum, City of Brea Art Museum. He is an Artist Member of the California Art Club and the International Guild of Realism.
