Born in on the island of Madeira, hundreds of miles south of Portugal in the North Atlantic Ocean, Elio Camacho immigrated to California with his family in 1975. Long an admirer of the master impressionists such as Bongart, Sorrolla, and Fechin, in his mid-twenties Camacho decided to follow his childhood passion of fine art. Intensive studies with noted artists led to the development of distinct representational style with abstract brush work. Over the years, he has continued to explore the endless possibilities of oil, working in the alla prima style to capture first impression and light on a given subject. He has been featured as an "Artist to Watch" in SouthwestArt Magazine and teaches painting workshops throughout the United States.
